Andile Cele is the definition of a self-made man. Born and raised in Durban, the 32 year old artist entrepreneur is the founder of Designer Original Products Enterprise (DOPE), a lifestyle brand that covers both fashion and footwear. The brand first made its mark as a boutique-style streetwear and sneaker store, named DOPEstore, with locations in Durban and Johannesburg. Andile was quickly recognised as a talent in the industry, and his ingenuity has paid off. He has collaborated with Grasshopper, an iconic South African footwear brand, and as of 2015, a showcase from DOPE has become a regular highlight of South African Fashion Week. It began when he saw room in the marketplace for ready-to-wear sports luxe clothing with a home-grown African twist. Using his flair for design, and a keen eye for fresh, modern styles, he brought his vision to life. It’s no small-scale project either; in just 7 years, Andile has successfully launched 5 individual lines under the DOPE brand. There’s DOPEorange, which features streetwear influenced by hip-hop and youth culture; DOPEwhite, a trendy collection that incorporates modern tastes; DOPEblack, an experimental line with a more formal feel; DOPEplus comprises quality leather goods; and DOPEhomme, which uses luxe Read more…

We have awesome news from Grasshoppers country, where a home-grown brand in its own small way contributed towards many of our memories and our lives. Most of us grew up with Grasshoppers featuring somewhere. Sometimes on the feet of Dad coming home from work with a hint of his cologne wafting in the door with him. Maybe they were our first pair of shoes fitted for school. Perhaps even the latest funky styles calling to us from the shop windows, and comfortably settling on our feet like a glove before we embark on the journey of the day (or night). As they say, we’ve come a long way, baby, and that’s a fact. The first pair of Grasshoppers was manufactured in 1966, and by 1991 the factory had already sent 6 million pairs into the world of shoe-lovers. The year 2000 saw a milestone of 8 million pairs, and a short 6 years later, a cool 10 million pairs of Grasshoppers had been manufactured. The new century saw loads of fantastic new ideas, such as the introduction of the Grasshoppers Kids range in 2008 and the Lifestyle range in 2011, followed by the Fashion range in 2012. We would like to thank Andries du Preez, a farmer near Grahamstown, for taking the time to drop us a mail regarding a pair of the Urban Bull Dark Brown Kenny shoes he recently purchased. “I have recently bought a pair of Urban Bull Dark Brown Kenny shoes in Grahamstown. I am a cattle farmer and my shoes are really put to the test. I am very happy with the quality of your shoes. I have previously used shoes from a different manufacturer but same style but am happy to say that your shoes is by far of superior quality. Thanks for that!” His friends are so impressed with his pair of Grasshoppers that they have decided to joining him with unparalleled comfort, style and durability. He writes, “This specific style of shoe is what most farmers around here are wearing but from different manufacturers and I will show and tell them to change their brand. A neighbouring farmer after seeing these shoes have already bought a pair as well.” Thank you Andries – we love it when our product speaks for itself, and we love hearing from our clients.

Ian adds, “Some 13 years on, they are still in good condition and in daily use.” In the letter he also asked us to point him in the right direction for his next purchase, and we kindly gave him the details of our Sales Representative in the Eastern Cape.
